WARNING: camera talk-may be boring!!!!!

yikes! it's been almost a week since i have posted here to my blog!!! ever since i've discovered the i love photography site i don't think i have even read a single blog (sorry guys)! ok, well let's catch up. exciting news for me!! i am getting a new camera in october!! i am so stoked- you have no idea! i figured a new camera for me was out of the question since i just got a really great camera just over a year ago and i figured i would have to be stuck with it for a few years at least! but jay has noticed my efforts in trying to make better photographs and not just snapshots. winning at the fair didn't hurt either! lol! so, now we move up to a digital slr. but which one? well, i knew from the get go that there were only two that i would be checking out: the nikon d70s and the canon EOS 20d. i am 99.9% sure that i want to get the 20d. and i think it's a little more than jay was thinking of spending since he is trying to get me to lean more toward the canon EOS rebel xt. the thing, is that i don't want to be pining over another camera in another year, and i think that i may even outgrow the rebel eventually. i think the 20d has enough gusto and enough options on it that i may be intimated by it at first but able to grow into it and keep me satisfied for a very long time. well, i am reading posts at the ilp site and lo and behold, i read that canon has just announced an october release of a new dslr, one smack dab in the middle of the 20d and the 10d!! (i never dared to dream i'd get the 10d just cause i don't have an extra $8000 lying around) a full frame, almost 13 megapixels!! it's the 5d !!! oooh! ahhh! wiping my drool from the keyboard... this is expected to be THE crossover camera! one teeensie weeensie problem. it's $1500 more than the 20d! (sigh) oh well... sorry to bother you all with camera talk, (if you are still with me) it's just that i haven't been so excited about anything like this in a long time, my love of photography is growing, and my photographs are becoming more than just snapshots to me, it's hard to explain, but i will try; each time i make a photo, i am aiming to make it such a photo that you would want to frame it like a piece of artwork, and i guess really that is what it is for me, art! i have a ways to go, but getting there is going to be enjoyable- with the right camera of course!

Of course I'm going to read your entire post, lol! Good for you in purchasing a new camera. Don't get everwhelmed, just learn one thing at a time and most importantly, have fun! I know what you mean about the transition between just your run of the mill snapshot, and actually trying to capture more with your camera.

I sent my D70 to Nikon's service department today, actually my husband over-nighted it. He knows how important it is to me, what a good man.

Hey!

You KNOW I read the whole post too! I'm wiping the drool off my mouth too just reading about the new camera coming out. LOL! I know what you mean about taking your photos very seriously. I love photography. It frustrates me that I don't a lot more about it, but I'm trying everyday to learn something else about this incredible hobby! Can't wait for you to get your new camera! you so deserve it! Great lo too!

Not boring at all!!! I think I am in the same place as you - really trying to improve my snapshots and create art from them. I'm drooling over cameras, but one is just not in the budget right now so I just have to practice up with my little dilapidated point and shoot one. Keep us posted! I would love to live vicariously through our new camera purchase!!!

I impulse-bought a Rebel (not the XT) a couple of months ago and I'm still waiting to fall in love with it. Right now, it's just a point-and-shoot on auto settings since I haven't taken the time to learn about manual settings (when and why and how to use them). I'm hoping that once I do that, I'll get rid of this last bit of buyer's remorse. My other digital is a Pentax Optio 33L and I didn't have any options with it really, hence the "I need another camera" bug. Gotta have a good camera for scrapbook pictures, right? ;)

Good luck with your choice!
