gone. all of his soft, whispy, baby curls are gone. the day for me to leave for the convention couldn't come fast enough for jay. i kid you not. he saw me off at 3am, went back to bed and probably laid there plotting in his head how he was going to turn his son into a boy. the day that people quit mistaking his son for a girl would be THAT day!!! so it was. after carter was up and fed his dad gave him his first haircut even though i stood in protest between him and the clippers for months. but he kept telling me that his opportunity would come while i was away, waaaaay on the other side of the country. ha! an idle threat! little did i know that statement would not be a threat, but a promise! when jay called me in philly and told me what he had done, it wasn't real to me, i couldn't get a mental picture of it in my brain. carter, my baby, with no hair? what does that look like, i wondered. he assured me that he looked good. he looked like a boy. now i don't know if this is just the mommy in me speaking, but you all have seen pics of carter. he looked like a boy! a curly haired boy! sure, i would go places and people would make comments like he was a girl. i just ignored them. when i first laid eyes on him, i coudn't help but smile because he had the biggest grin on his face because he had not seen me in three days. but, i still felt a little torn. not really sure why- maybe it was because i missed his first haircut, or maybe i'm a little miffed with jay because he waited until i left to cut his hair, or the fact that carter is my last baby and i just wasn't ready for him to look like a big boy yet? i don't know. i've been home a week and i am still getting used to it. i know it will grow back, which brings me to the upside of this whole ordeal (and it WAS an ordeal for carter from what i was told- carter fought his dad tooth and nail) is that now it will be interesting to see what texture his hair comes back in. schuyler and drew have really tight curls, while keith has straight short hair that grows into big soft curls when grown out. deacons hair is more like a brillo pad, kinda rough, but being neither curly nor straight, it's hard to describe his hair! it kinda does a half curl thing. oh! jay did have the common sense to save carter's hair for me so i could put it in his baby book :) ! well, i guess that's it for my rant...

Awww, Lisa, I can SO relate! Although I didn't get ambushed like you did, it just broke my heart when Josh's hair got cut off. He, too, had a full head of silky long curls and Dad was getting tired of people commenting on how pretty his "daughter" was. Hang in there! :)
how sneaky! he still looks adorable lisa! my dad had all my hair cut off when my mom was in the hospital after having my sister. everyone thought i was a boy! :)
